Bashert (Soul Mate)

Love takes on so many different forms. 

Love generates many different feelings. 

 

Love can make you feel like you’re walking in the clouds.

 

Love can cause great pain. 

 

 

The love between a parent and their children & grandchildren. 

 

Is a bond that will live never be broken. 

 

From the second they are born to beyond the second you pass.

 

Your heart has forever been transformed. 

 

 

Love given to friends and former lovers.

 

Can fulfill us here and there. 

 

However, it won’t last our whole lives. 

 

There’s always a piece of you “missing”. 

 

 

That missing piece is what most people spend their lives searching for.

 

And very few find. 

 

It is their true love. 

 

The one who loves you unconditionally. 

 

Despite your faults and silly quirks.

True love makes you feel. 

 

Like a waterfall of delight has taken a hold of your body. 

 

True love takes commitment.

 

 To loving each other.

 

With all your heart and all your soul. 

 

 

A commitment to making the other feel safe.

 

True love is listening to each other’s insecurities. 

 

While supporting each other in times of need. 

 

 

True love is kissing like your breath is being taken away. 

 

And making love where your bodies become one. 

 

 

For if you are one of the lucky few.

 

Then not only have you found true love.

 

 But also, your bashert. 

 

Your soulmate. 

 

 

I’m in the group of the lucky few. 

 

As I found my bashert as she has found me. 

 

Now together, we know what true love can be.

  Turning the Lights Back On Finding My Way Back to Synagogue, Loving It, & Finding Peace   As is the case with pretty much every Billy Joel song, his mastery of words touches one person versus another in different ways and that is the genius of the Piano Man. How many times have you heard someone say that his songs have affected every situation that they experienced during their life. For me, his song “Turn the Lights Back On” beautifully describes my journey back to Temple decades after not attending on a regular basis.    There was never a hesitation in my love and belief in Judaism.
