Should American Jews Support Trump's Iranian War?

My long-time therapist asked me during our last session this week what I thought of Trump and Netanyahu initiating the war with Iran the weekend prior. I have had the same therapist for the last six and a half years. She told me that I am one of the few people whom she values opinions on political and world issues. My therapist was a little surprised at my response assuming that I would be supportive being that Iran has been the main sponsor of Hamas and Hezbollah’s terror attacks against Israel. This led me to the question of should American Jews, especially liberal ones, support this war?

As with anything that involves President Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, nothing is cut and dry. No one is upset that the Ayatollah and his top lieutenants and advisors are deceased, but the question must be asked, “Why Now?” According to our own intelligence agencies and others, Iran was nowhere near to having a functional nuclear weapon, despite the claims of Trump and Netanyahu. Videos reels have been played on social media and news media outlets showing Netanyahu claiming Iran was “weeks to months away” from having a functional nuclear weapon since 1996. Iran supposedly was willing to make a “better nuclear deal” with the Trump Administration than the one they signed with the Obama Administration.

Every American President has told Netanyahu “NO!” We will not support or supply Netanyahu if he initiates an assault on Iran. Trump is the only President in 30 years, who said YES. Netanyahu is on a mission to stay in power as long as possible because once he is out of power, he most likely is headed to prison. Keeping Israel in constant conflict is his best way to hold off being thrown out of power. Is there a coincidence that a few weeks ago we celebrated the first Shabbat where all the bodies of the Oct.7 hostages were returned and now joint strikes against Iran commence? Netanyahu is a very close family friend to Kushner family. Yes, President Trump’s son in law and special envoy Jared Kushner.

If the reason for beginning the war was retaliation for the Oct. 7 terrorist attack, why didn’t President Trump and Netanyahu attack within the first six months of Trump’s inauguration? Trump has no problem blaming President Biden for things. He could have launched the attacks and said that Biden should have done this on the day after the terrorist attack. It is also well documented that Netanyahu was funneling money to Hamas through Qatar to hedge his bet in being able to expand Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

President Trump and his cabinet members have been giving other conflicting reason’s for launching the war. One of the reasons mentioned was that the Ayatollah’s regime murdered 70 thousand Iranians who were peacefully protesting for change. The Ayatollah’s actions were an evil, cold blooded murder of innocent people. It’s disgusting. However, this reasoning is coming from a Trump Administration whose ICE agency has murdered three Americans, illegally arrested and detained American citizens and residents, and physically abused them.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated earlier in the week that Israel was going to launch an attack against Iran with or without America’s help and that would trigger Iran to attack American military bases. Rubio said that was the reasoning behind Trump’s decision. Former Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated that Netanyahu tried to get President Obama to fall for the same reasoning and Obama never took the bait. Secretary Blinken also stated that after Oct. 7 terrorist attack Netanyahu wanted to US to join Israel in launching an attack against Hezbollah in Lebanon. However, U.S. Intel learned that Israeli intelligence was being fed false information.

The final excuse that President Trump has used for his decision to launch a war against Iran was that we needed to destroy Iran’s nuclear capability. But the Administration stated that they destroyed Iran’s nuclear capability when we launched an attack last year. So, was the administration lying then or are they lying now?  Sadly, the reality is that Trump is an old man who thinks that the world is a reality show, and he is producing it using American treasure and American lives. He could care less about how his decisions affect American citizens or the American economy.  Trump is producing this real-life war with Iran because he is deftly afraid of the public finding out his true relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and his interactions with the underage women he recruited.

In conclusion, Liberal American Jews do not need to automatically support this impulsive decision by Trump and Netanyahu to launch a war with Iran. The American homeland was never in danger. I feel that Israel will be no safer in the long run, especially since the new supreme leader of Iran is the late Ayatollah’s son, who lost not only his father but his mother and wife in the attacks. He is supposedly more of a hard liner that his father, so there will be no freedom for the citizens of Iran to shape their own future. This war will lead to sky high gas prices, financial instability in the markets, and an even further increase in anti Semitism by the America First wing of the Trump coalition.
